Alissa Hansen is not only a beautiful ‘gazelle’ who models in her spare time but she’s also a gymnast, dancer, actor, yoga teacher and reiki healer. This well-rounded lady is a beauty inside and out and this month’s photographer, Milan Elliott captures a bit of her heart, soul and and stunning form in the below photos. We also caught up with her to ask her more about her career transitions, her favorite travel destinations and much more.
Name: Alissa Terese Hansen
Occupation: Yoga Teacher
Tell us a little about yourself, where you from, what’s your background etc.?
Born and raised Vancouver B.C. I spent the majority of my late child hood and teenage years competing as a rhythmic gymnast. I feel very fortunate that I got to be so heavily involved in a sport from a young age. I definitely don’t feel like I missed out on anything, I always loved performing and being creative.
What do you like to do for fun?
Being a lizard lounging on the beach, traveling, and adding new books to my giant and constantly growing pile of books (I hope I actually read them one day.)
How did you get into acting/modelling?
Once I retired from Rhythmic Gymnastics, I spent two years in post-secondary school. I learned quickly that was not where I wanted to be, so I dropped out and went into a one year contemporary dance intensive. During the program we had an “acting for dancers” workshop, which is where I met my first acting coach and began pursuing acting from there. I’ve always modeled for fun and never professionally through an agency.
How did you transition from acting into the healing arts and becoming a yoga teacher?
I don’t have a clear answer, the transition happened naturally. I remember a friend of mine asking me: “what are the things that genuinely make you happy”? I think trying to figure out the answer to that question is what lead me out of acting, and into yoga. I did a reiki (energy healing) level one course, and soon after signed up for my 200 hour yoga teacher training. After I finished my teacher training, I knew it was time to move on from acting for the time being.
If someone could do one thing to improve their lives everyday, what should they do?
Move your body, doing whatever it is you enjoy: dance, the gym, yoga, hiking, biking! As well as taking at least one moment every day to check in with yourself.
How do you like to stay in shape?
I currently do yoga 6 days a week, and try and go to the gym twice a week. My workout regime changes quite a bit.
Describe your style.
I don’t know anymore, I’m either wearing yoga clothes or at the beach!
What’s your can’t live without beauty products?
Dry shampoo! I honestly feel the best when my hair is salty after swimming in the ocean all day, and I’m not wearing any makeup. I always prefer less.
Where has your favourite travel destination been?
Where are you traveling to next?
Either Bali or Costa Rica, I am looking to do another yoga teacher training and possibly find work as a yoga teacher where ever I end up.
The best piece of advice you have ever received and from who?The times when I get wrapped up in anxiety or worrying about the future, my boyfriend always reminds me to reflect back at the path I’ve taken and the changes I’ve made to get to this moment. To trust that everything is enfolding the way it’s meant to.
Don’t mix fruit and vegetables. (It’s bad for your digestive system) – Mom

One of many: “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” – Maya Angelou
Where can we learn more about you, attend your classes, contact you for consultation/services?
